Tell them they can come to you whenever they have questions about drugs and you will answer. If a young child brings up the subject, ask gently what they know about drugs. It’s important to look out for signs that your child’s drinking or drug use is affecting their mental health or wellbeing. You can find a list of common warning signs further down this page. Try to do this even if your child or young person tells you something that worries you. Avoid getting angry, shouting, or telling them they’re ‘bad’ for drinking or trying drugs.
